Established in 2001, the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network (GMLPN) is a growing network of over 120 members including, Independent Training Providers, FE Colleges, Community Voluntary Organisations, Universities, key suppliers, and other stakeholders. GMLPN work alongside key partners and Local Authorities to achieve an ever-closer alignment between the needs of employers, individuals, communities, and the suppliers of skills.

“We are very pleased to have Smart Works Greater Manchester join the Network. They do amazing work empowering unemployed women in Greater Manchester, and we are very excited to do our part in promoting their fantastic offer to those who need it.”

Smart Works Greater Manchester helps marginalised women break the cycle of rejection and deprivation that results from unemployment. Through a dressing and interview coaching service, they give vulnerable unemployed women (aged 16 to 66 years old) the confidence and the practical skills they need to get a job, to secure financial independence and to enhance their life chances and the chances of the families they support.

Each client receives a high-quality outfit of clothes and accessories (free and hers to keep), followed by one-to-one interview training with an expert interview coach. This intervention has a profound impact on each woman’s view of their own potential, and we are proud that 63% get a job within a month of their visit to our charity.

Cara Mahon, Engagement and Referrals Outreach Manager at Smart Works Greater Manchester said:

“We are delighted to be part of the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network. Our doors are open, and our team is ready to support any unemployed woman who could benefit from our pre-employment services available 5 days per week in Stockport town centre, Manchester city centre or virtually via our online service. We provide coaching to help our clients navigate through applying for a job, building CVS and cover letters, and helping translate their lived experiences into core competencies that are recognised and valued by employers. And when they get an interview, we support our clients by styling them in a fantastic interview outfit that reflects their personal style, coupled with comprehensive interview skills advice to ensure that they have a far higher chance of succeeding at interview and getting the job.

Every client that we support has been referred from a ‘referral partner’ organisation that is working alongside them. Referrals can be made by phone ( 0161 974 0669 ), by email ( greatermanchester@smartworks.org.uk ), or via our online referral form.”
