Supporting Autistic Individuals into Apprenticeships

In partnership with NCFE

In partnership with

Background

Autistic young individuals are already disadvantaged in terms of likelihood of employment. Research on previous economic recessions indicates that disadvantaged groups become more marginalised and further away from the labour market. Therefore, it is vital to provide extra employability support to marginalised individuals as we move through the post-Covid 19 recovery.

Purpose & Delivery

The purpose of this project, delivered by GMLPN in partnership with NCFE, is to equip autistic individuals with technical and employability skills to progress into Apprenticeships or other destinations e.g. traineeships, full time education and employment. It aims to strengthen links between schools/colleges, training providers, referral agencies and employers to improve progression routes between education and employment. The project will include an independent evaluation, conducted by NCFE, which will take place throughout. It will also aim to prove an effective model and provide an evidence base to support the case of the level of funding required to ensure an inclusive funding policy.

The Supporting Autistic Individuals into Apprenticeships Project aims to:

R

Work with Training Providers to deliver a training and mentoring programme, which will embed both technical and employability skills to support autistic individuals to progress on to an Apprenticeship (or other best next steps)

R

Inform Training Providers, Employers and Referral Agencies on how best to support autistic individuals through the development of toolkits and capacity building services

R

Prove an effective model and provide and evidence base of the impact on learners and employers making the case to key stakeholders. Garnering the support of other stakeholders for the level of funding required to ensure an inclusive funding policy that enables progression for autistic learners and a return on investment

The support given by GMLPN is great as it allows us to know what is going on in the industry first, gives us other businesses alike to discuss important issues with, share best practice, standardization, have a direct line to Ofsted, EESFA, IfATE etc.
