No, you can start an apprenticeship at the end of Year 11 instead of attending full time education in a college or sixth form.

Yes, apprentices are members of staff so they will be entitled to annual leave and employer pension contributions.

Off the job training is mandatory training which is received by the apprentice, during the apprentice’s normal working hours, for the purpose of achieving the knowledge, skills and behaviors defined in the apprenticeship standard. This is usually delivered by the training provider and supports the apprentice to prepare for the End Point Assessment.

Thousands of employers across England recruit apprentices cover multiple sectors. From large multi-national corporations offering a large number and range of apprenticeships to small local businesses recruiting one apprentice at a time.

Depending upon the job role and sector, you can progress up the levels of apprenticeship from intermediate to advanced, advanced to higher or degree.

The Find an Apprenticeship website enables users to search for live apprenticeship vacancies. Other useful websites to find apprenticeship vacancies include Not Going to Uni and Get My First Job. Using the Careers Finder part of the UCAS website is one way of finding degree apprenticeship vacancies.

Apprentices can book annual leave with their employer at any time of year.

You would apply to the employer who has already decided which university they will partner with before the apprenticeship job vacancy is posted.

If you’re not currently in full time education you can search and apply for vacancies at any time. For Year 13 students vacancies will start to appear from October of Year 13 right through to the end of academic year. For Year 11 students, its slightly late, vacancies tend to go live from early February until the end of the academic year.
