This online event is a must for senior leaders, managers and inclusion leads of ITPs and colleges. The introduction of the dedicated evaluation area for inclusion requires providers to move from compliance to demonstrating embedded and impactful support systems tailored to their specific local context and learners’ needs. The Toolkit also widens the inspection lens from focusing on protected characteristics and SEND to also looking at socio-economically disadvantaged learners, those without level 2 English and/or maths, those known to social care or the youth justice system, young carers and those with other barriers to learning such as ill health, bereavement or homelessness.

This workshop will help delegates understand what The Further Education and Skills Toolkit says about inclusion and ensure delegates know how to evidence they are meeting at least expected standard and what they must to do reach strong standard. The session will help delegates understand and apply the inclusion inspection methodology, including key meetings, case sampling and inclusion learning walks. It will show how to evidence effective identification of learners’ needs, reduce barriers to learning, review and adapt support, and use a graduated approach to ensure support remains appropriate. Delegates will also learn how to train staff, report effectively to the board, anticipate inspectors’ questions, develop and review an inclusion strategy, and identify actions needed to reach expected or strong standards.

The workshop will also have input from a sector leader whose ITP adult and apprenticeship provision has received ‘strong’ for inclusion.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

• apply the inclusion inspection methodology including key inclusion meetings, case sampling and the inclusion ‘learning walk’.
• know how to show to inspectors you are effectively identifying and supporting individual need and reducing barriers to learning.
• know how to show that you are working with learners to review support, adapt to changing need and helping them become independent learners

• evidence a ‘graduated approach’ – the continuous cycle of assess, plan, do and review, to ensure support meets need
• ensure staff are appropriately trained to support the range of need
• know what reports the board should receive about inclusion.
• identify themes and questions inspectors are likely to follow.
• respond competently to inspectors’ questions.
• develop an inclusion strategy and review its impact.
• identify key actions you need to take to ensure inclusion is at least expected standard and how to achieve strong.
