Stockport County FC, a professional association football club based in Stockport, has joined GMLPN.

Stockport County FC’s Football Education Programme offers two distinct pathways of enrichment, reflecting its commitment to providing students with diverse opportunities in the sports industry. The ‘Player Pathway’ enables students to experience a full academy-style training and performance programme, whilst the ‘Sports Career Pathway’ provides specialist education, enrichment and regular work experience based on one of four chosen career areas.

By joining the Greater Manchester Learning Provider Network (GMLPN), Stockport County FC gains access to a wealth of resources, including valuable networking opportunities, collaborative partnerships, and insights into best practices in education and training. This will support the continued growth of the Stockport County Education Pathway, including opportunities to guide the young people they work with into education, training and other career opportunities.

Chloe Ramsden, Partnership Manager at GMLPN said:

“We are very pleased to have Stockport County Football Club join the Network. Membership with GMLPN offers Stockport County FC the opportunity to further develop its educational offerings, ensuring students receive high-quality training and support as they pursue careers in the sports industry.

By working together, we can help Stockport County FC expand its reach, enhance its curriculum, and create new pathways for learners to access rewarding opportunities in sports and related fields.”

Lucy Connell, Head of Education at Stockport County Football Education, said:

“Our successful FE programmes have been providing young people in Stockport and other areas of Greater Manchester with unique study and enrichment opportunities for over three years. We are delighted to be joining the GMLPN this year and are confident that we can work collaboratively to facilitate diverse education and training experiences to support our students even further.

We set high expectations for our college learners and work hard to help them raise their own aspirations. Whilst a large proportion of our students progress to university courses via UCAS, we have an ambition to develop a more robust system of supporting alternative next steps into apprenticeships and employment; joining the GMLPN will allow us to expand and enhance a network of associated employers to create such opportunities moving forwards.”
