Get to know Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS)
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) is one of the largest fire and rescue services in England, covering an area of 493 square miles and serving a population of 2.87 million residents, along with many others who work in or visit the region.
GMFRS delivers fire, road, and water safety education to people of all ages across GM. This education is provided in schools, at the organisation’s Safety Centre in Bury, and through a variety of tailored programmes.
The programmes designed for children and young people aim to help participants reach their full potential. Combining classroom-based learning with practical drill-yard activities, these initiatives emphasise key skills such as teamwork, communication, risk assessment, following instructions, and understanding the consequences of actions. The experience is engaging and challenging, and participants have the opportunity to earn recognised qualifications and develop valuable skills that can lead to employment and improved future opportunities.
In addition, GMFRS offers a wide range of intervention programmes as part of its commitment to creating safer and more resilient communities.
